IT for the Elderly

Over the past year Clear Computing has been heavily involved in introducing the elderly to IT, through installing equipment into Residential and Nursing Homes. This has had an amazing effect on the Residents being able to communicate with the outside world, particularly with their loved ones, through email and skype. An easy to follow manual has been designed by Clear Computing to enable training to take place in each Home.

There has been a government scheme and grant leading the way in bringing the elderly into the 21st century through IT. It is named ‘Get Connected’:

The Get Connected Government Scheme introduces the elderly to IT and brings technology into both privately run and charity run Residential and Nursing Homes to enable residents to communicate with the outside world. A computer is also provided for the use of staff training. Each home is eligible for up to £20,000 out of the £12 million scheme which provides desktops, laptops, projectors, screens, digital cameras, broadband as well as computer furniture and accessories. This scheme comes to an end at the beginning of 2011.
